Melania Lancy is proud to be Signal’s resident scenic designer where she has designed the bulk of the shows since 2004, including the following productions: Aces, Accidental Death of an Anarchist, Aftermath, The Weir (2007 Jeff Nomination for Best Scenic Design), The Ballad of the Sad Cafe, The Real Inspector Hound, Catch-22, Landslide, Seascape, She Stoops to Conquer, Closer, Hamlet, Fool for Love, 1776 (2008 Jeff Award for Outstanding Musical Production), The Birthday Party, Six Degrees of Separation, and The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. Some of Melania’s other Chicago credits include: Arnie The Doughtnut (Lifeline Theatre), The Little Foxes (Shattered Globe - 2009 Equity Jeff Nomination for Best Scenic Design in a mid-size theatre), A Devil Inside (Right Brain Project), You Never Can Tell (Village Players), Half Life (Awaken Productions), and several other productions for local Chicago high schools and colleges: Nefertiti the Musical, The Sound of Music, Cinderella, The Wiz, Aida, Brigadoon, Clue, Antigone, Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat, and Noises Off.
Melania received her BFA from Rhode Island School of Design as a fine artist. And has also worked creating commercial sculptures for the John G. Shedd Aquarium, the Brookfield Zoo, Sea World of Texas, and the Museum of Science and Industry. In addition to her artistic endeavors, Melania is proud to be the College Counselor at the Chicago Academy for the Arts, an award-winning, private, arts-oriented high school for students with demonstrated talent and potential in the arts.
